I’m Johannes, and I am a geologist. I’m from Germany and that’s also where I studied the subject of geology, namely at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena. This of course means that English is not my native language, so please excuse any errors related to my poor English you find in my blog. After graduating in 2011 I moved to the lovely city of Edinburgh, Scotland, where I started a PhD in geology. My PhD was about climate mitigation in a wider sense: I studied natural CO2 reservoirs as analogues to CO2 storage sites. After finishing my PhD in 2015/16 I moved back to Germany where in 2017 I started to work at the University of Freiburg – which is also my hometown. I am a keen hobby photographer and a big fan of data visualisation.
